2024 marks the 25^th anniversary of Liverpool Shanghai sister city relationship. In a recent 2024 Chinese New Year video message from A message from General Director of Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office to Liverpool, Mr. Kong welcomes friends in the UK to visit and invest in Shanghai.

He also revealed several facts about Shanghai, for example, Shanghai has the largest number of cafes (more than 8,500); It has the largest expat community in the Chinese mainland; It has a diversified & inclusive population; and it strives to build itself into 5 international centres: international economic centre; international financial centre; international trade centre; international shipping centre; and international sci-tech innovation centre.
